Breck was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but grew up in Rexburg, Idaho. He attended Madison High School in Rexburg and later Ricks College where he received an associates degree in economics and graduated with honors. In 1969 he served as an LDS missionary in the South American country of Chile where he learned Spanish. After returning from Chile he attended the University of Utah, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelors in economics as well as J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University, graduating with honors in his juris doctor degree.

He began practicing in Rexburg, Idaho in 1976, and began his own law firm in 1984, Breck Barton & Associates, and has been with the firm ever since.

Breck is an active member of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association and has served on their board of directors and their executive board. He was also the president of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association in 2003-2004. In 2008, he was named as the Trial Lawyer of the year by the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association receiving the James J. May award for excellence for representing Idaho citizens in trial practice, community generosity, and exemplary commitment to the ideal of the association and the preservation of the civil justice system. Breck is also a member of the Bar of the state of Idaho as well as the United States District Court for the district of Idaho.

Breck has experience handling cases involving a wide range of issues including birth injuries, medical negligence claims, defective equipment claims, drug claims, sex abuse, work injuries, multiple death claims, construction litigation, real property litigation, and motor vehicle accidents. He is one of the few lawyers in eastern Idaho that does medical negligence claims.

When he is not working, Breck enjoys horses, guns, hunting, fishing, golf, dining out, and trying to be a good neighbor and a contributor to the community. He is also a proud father of five children and husband of over 43 years.
Steven was born in Rexburg, Idaho and grew up nearby in St. Anthony, Idaho. He attended South Fremont High School and later attended Brigham Young University–Idaho where he graduated in 2011 with a B.A. in English with an emphasis in professional writing. From 2006-2008, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santiago, Chile. In 2013, he attended law school in Moscow, Idaho. While there, he met his wife, Megan. During law school, Steven was on Law Review and took part in nearly every mock trial and moot court competition the school had to offer. In 2016, he brought back the Best Brief award for the University of Idaho Law School from the Duberstein Moot Court competition where he competed against over 50 other law schools. He graduated from law school in 2016, passed the Bar Exam, and immediately began the practice of law. First handling social security disability claims and then as a deputy prosecutor in Lewiston, Idaho.

During the two years he worked as a prosecutor, he handled hundreds of misdemeanor cases. He specialized particularly in prosecuting misdemeanor DUI and Domestic Battery. He acquired a taste for trial work and had an excellent conviction rate for the cases he took to trial.

Steven has now returned home to the Rexburg area with his young family. He is eager to provide his legal expertise in the areas of criminal defense, domestic relations, divorce, disability, probate, estate planning, and immigration. He is a member of the Idaho State Bar and the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association.

In his private life, Steven enjoys camping with his family, backpacking, hiking, cross-county skiing, and taking Megan out to dinner. As a lifelong Idaho resident, there is hardly a corner of the State he has yet to explore. However, he is willing to take suggestions on great areas for camping and hiking.

MARCIA MURDOCH

Growing up in Fremont County provided Marcia with a deep love of the area. She graduated from Ricks College with an Associate Degree and Idaho State University with a Bachelor Degree and Associate Degree. After working as a paralegal for Breck Barton & Associates for three years, Marcia went to law school at University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho and graduated in 2009, passing the bar that summer before returning to Breck Barton & Associates to practice law that Fall. In 2017, she left the firm to serve a term as the elected prosecuting attorney in Fremont County.

Marcia loves to spend time with her family. She’s the youngest of eight children and spends as much time as she can with her numerous nieces and nephews in their various activities and life events. She enjoys running when she’s able to make time in her schedule and has even been known to run a race on occasion. Marcia also served a term as a trustee on the Fremont County Joint School District No. 215 from 2015 to 2019. She’s been known to enjoy watching her North Fremont Huskies in various different athletic events.
